TAIL at Web Summit 2022
That’s it for Web Summit 2022!
It was great to see fashion starting to take center stage with excellent talks here are some highlights from the fashion sessions I was able to attend:
Can fashion & Web3 coexist?
Mark Russell from British Vogue with Dr. Giovanna Graziosi Casimiro & Pierre Nicolas Hurstel.
The metaverse is trending, and fashion houses are vying for a place and joining in. They discussed the value of fashion and Web3 coexisting and creating opportunities within it.
Investing in Circularity
With Aggi Cantrill (Bloomberg), Dounia Wone (Vestiaire Collective) and Lucia Rigo (Generation Investment management)
How can investors identify genuinely sustainable companies?
Supporting the next generation of design
With Ebony-Renee Baker (Fashion editor Refinery29), Caroline Rush (CEO of British Fashion Council), Cecilie Thorsmark (CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week) and Serge Carreira (Initiative chez Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode)
This was a great talk exploring how organisations are responsible for effectively nurturing the next generation of design talent, which focuses on building the business as much as on creative support. The talk also broached the future of fashion shows and their sustainability.
How luxury fashion can make resale desirable
With Sara Delgado (Teen Vogue), Stephanie Crespin (Reflaunt) and Alison Loehnis (YOOX NET-A-PORTER)
Resale has seen a strong year, with fast fashion looking to get in on the action. They discussed how resale culture starts from the top down.
Fashion 2025: The year Fashion becomes obsolete
Kerry Murphy (The Fabricant) spoke about how a massive overhaul is overdue for brands to remain relevant in light of the rapidly digitised future.
Change materials, change the world
With Ebony-Renee Baker (Refinery29, Inc.), Nicolaj Reffstrup (Ganni A/S), Dan Widmaier (Bolt Threads)
The global rate of clothing consumption is not slowing down, and fashion waste is on the rise. Pressure for change is mounting. It was interesting to hear how fabric is disrupting the next generation of fashion.
Phluidity in Fashion
With Natalie Salmon (hello! fashion) and CyrusGolestan (The Phluid Project)
How will genderless fashion look in the future, and is acceptance of the binary "blue v pink" a thing of the past? How big is the appetite for genderless fashion, and how is Gen Z leading the change?
